Robert Owen III, a 44-year-old African American man, was shot to death on July 17, 2022, in the 10400 block of South Corliss Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot multiple times in the early hours of the morning.

The Chicago Police Department opened an immediate homicide investigation, canvassing the area for witnesses and collecting evidence. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified; investigators say a lack of witnesses willing to come forward has hindered progress. Owen’s family and community members have held vigils and marches calling for justice and for action to address the neighborhood’s gun violence.
