Jeremiah Ellis was 9 when he was killed on May 14, 2022, in Skokie, Illinois. He was at his grandmother’s apartment celebrating his recent birthday and was watching television in the living room with his 5-year-old brother while their grandmother slept on the couch. A hail of gunfire struck the apartment; Jeremiah was hit 11 times and died, and his younger brother was wounded in the foot. The grandmother found Jeremiah bleeding and was unable to save him.
Investigators say the shooting was a targeted act of revenge plotted by 32-year-old Tamesha Clark of Chicago, who believed Jeremiah’s family had a connection to the earlier killing of her boyfriend. Authorities allege Clark, with 22-year-old Richard Banks and 16-year-old Christian Anderson, scouted the complex the night before, then returned the next night and fired at least 35 shots into the living room. Police linked the suspects through cell phone data, surveillance footage, and witnesses. Clark was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery with a firearm; Banks and Anderson faced similar charges, with Anderson tried as an adult.
Jeremiah’s father, Cecil Tousant, remembered him as a joyful child who loved dancing and basketball. Does anyone have information about Jeremiah, his family, or the case that could help fill in details?
