Henry D. Gordon III, a 26-year-old African American man from Urbana, Illinois, was shot on March 5, 2022, on the 900 block of Welch Drive. Urbana police responded to reports of multiple gunshots at about 10:44 p.m. and found two victims; both were taken to Carle Hospital. Henry D. Gordon III died shortly after arrival; a 21-year-old man from Normal was also wounded and reported in critical condition. The Champaign County Coroner, Duane Northrup, confirmed Gordon’s identity and scheduled an autopsy. Preliminary reports indicate gunshot wounds as the cause of death.

The Urbana Police Department, working with the Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators, opened an investigation and asked for anyone with information, photographs, or video to come forward. No arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and the investigation remains ongoing.
