On November 13, 2021, 31-year-old Taita Johnson of Danville was found dead inside an apartment at 63 Forest Avenue in Riverside. Officers responding to a reported possible burglary discovered Johnson and 38-year-old Jeremy Lane unresponsive; both were pronounced dead at the scene around 1 p.m.

The Cook County Medical Examiner determined both victims died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths homicides. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is assisting Riverside police, who have described the incident as isolated and said there is no known ongoing threat to the community. No arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and the investigation remains active.
