Brandon D Kelly, a 20-year-old African American man from Champaign, Illinois, was shot and killed on October 31, 2021. Officers who responded to reports of a shooting in the 2000 block of West Bradley Avenue found Kelly with multiple gunshot wounds after a large gathering in the Parkland Pointe Apartments parking lot; several vehicles were seen leaving and people were fleeing on foot. Officers provided immediate medical aid and Kelly was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he later died.

Investigators identified 17-year-old Tony Brock of Champaign as the suspect, alleging Brock approached Kelly on foot and shot him multiple times at close range before fleeing. On January 25, 2022, an arrest warrant for murder was issued with bond set at $2,000,000, and Brock was arrested two days later. The Champaign Police Department continues to seek information from the public and encourages anyone with tips to contact authorities or Crime Stoppers.
