Wanda Gail Loe, 26, vanished from the Tahoe City/North Lake Tahoe area on July 26, 1968. She had been working as a waitress at the Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge for about six weeks before she stopped showing up for work; her last paycheck, mail and other personal effects were left behind. Her green 1969 Buick remained in the restaurant parking lot with no sign of her.
At the time she disappeared Loe was camping in the Blackwood Canyon area near Homewood. Her campsite was found dismantled and some of her property was reported stolen. Witnesses mentioned seeing a Volkswagen Bug near the scene, though the vehicle’s connection to the disappearance is unclear. Loe’s relationship with her boyfriend Dennis Finn was described as turbulent; Finn allegedly confessed to killing her while intoxicated and died in 1982 without being charged. Investigators have suggested she may have been buried in the Carpenter Valley area near Truckee, but her body has never been recovered and the case remains unsolved.
Anyone who knew Wanda, remembers seeing her car or the campground area in July 1968, or has information about a Volkswagen Bug in that vicinity is asked to come forward.
