Keeshanna Jackson was an 18-year-old freshman at Southern Illinois University when she was killed on August 22, 2021, during a shooting at an off-campus party on West Cherry Street in Carbondale, Illinois. She had arrived on campus a week earlier and planned to grow her nail business. Police found her with a life-threatening gunshot wound after shots were reported around 3 a.m.; she was later pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Three other people were wounded that night — 29-year-old Jyrin Blair, 23-year-old Raheem Sylas, and an unidentified minor — all treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Investigators believe multiple shooters were involved and that the shooting grew out of a feud between two rival groups; more than 100 witnesses and suspects were interviewed during the probe.

On August 14, 2024, 22-year-old Keavonte Nesby was charged in connection with Jackson’s murder, facing multiple counts including first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Authorities said the investigation remained ongoing and did not rule out additional arrests. If anyone has information about the shooting or Keeshanna’s last night, please share what is known.
