Antwane McClelland Jr. was 26 when he was shot and killed during a block party in Decatur on July 15, 2021. He was found lying in the street with fatal gunshot wounds, surrounded by shell casings. Born July 3, 1995, he was a son and father whose death deeply affected his family and the local community.
The investigation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Damariyon Mills by the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Decatur Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit. Mills was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of weapons. Authorities recovered a 9mm handgun, ammunition, and other items at Mills’ residence and vehicle; he was held in the Macon County Jail while detectives continued to gather evidence and pursue leads.
Antwane’s father, Antwane F. McClelland Sr., a deacon at City of Praise Church, has been active in calling for action against gun violence and the family held a vigil in his memory. Does anyone have information about that night or the events leading up to the shooting that could help investigators?
