William Brooks was 19 when he was shot and killed shortly before 5 p.m. on April 7, 2021, in the 15200 block of Drexel Avenue in South Holland, Illinois. The Cook County medical examiner’s office recorded that Brooks was struck multiple times after an altercation at a gathering escalated and someone opened fire. He was pronounced dead about half an hour later. A 38-year-old man also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the same incident.

South Holland police opened an investigation into the shooting.
