Roberto Avila-Juarez was 20 when he was shot dead on October 27, 2020, in the 200 block of West Berkley Lane in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. He was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his face and pronounced dead at the scene by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Investigators say Avila-Juarez knew the assailant, 17-year-old Christian Armstrong. The following morning Armstrong returned and shot him at close range. Armstrong was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, surrendered to Hoffman Estates police, and was held on $100,000 bail with electronic monitoring.
