Robert Burrows, a 64-year-old man from East St. Louis, was shot on July 24, 2020, at the Orr Weathers Housing Complex on Missouri Avenue and died of his injuries on August 30, 2020. He had been shot in the pelvis and succumbed a little over a month after the shooting.
The investigation, handled by the East St. Louis Police Department and the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation, resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Jordan Yates of East St. Louis. Yates was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon; the St. Clair County State’s Attorney stated Yates shot Burrows without lawful justification and with intent to kill or cause great bodily harm. Yates was held on $1 million bond.
The case underscored concerns about violent crime and gun violence in the community. If anyone has information about the shooting at the Orr Weathers Housing Complex, please share what is known.
