Laterryon C. Brumfield was 23 when he was fatally shot in Freeport, Illinois, on July 5, 2020. Known as L.A., he was born April 7, 1997, in Rockford and had lived in Freeport since 2012. He worked as a cook for the Freeport School District and was a graduate of Freeport High School.

The shooting occurred about 12:20 a.m. on the 900 block of South Carroll Avenue, where multiple people were struck. Brumfield was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead; five others were injured, at least one seriously enough to be hospitalized. No suspects or arrests had been announced and police asked anyone with information to come forward.
