Mylonia Winbush, a 30-year-old African American woman from Chicago, was killed on June 8, 2020, in Maywood, Illinois. The shooting happened in the early morning on the 1600 block of South 19th Street while Winbush was with a group. Troy Taylor, 38, and another person reportedly left the group and returned in a minivan; Taylor allegedly fired from the passenger side, striking Winbush in the torso. She was later pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center. Her sister was wounded but survived.
Police recovered seven shell casings and a mangled bullet at the scene. Troy Taylor was arrested and charged with first-degree murder; he had a prior 2015 guilty plea for aggravated fleeing from police and was ordered held without bond at a July 4, 2020 court appearance. A second suspect, Kalvin Russell, 44, of Maywood, was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder and was held on $500,000 bond after a July 8, 2020 appearance. The case against both defendants is ongoing.
If anyone knew Mylonia or has information about the shooting on South 19th Street that night, please come forward.
