Rodney Nelson was 18 when he was shot and killed on August 27, 2019, in the 1400 block of Sibley Boulevard in Calumet City, Illinois. The shooting happened at about 1:37 p.m.; Nelson was found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities treated the death as a homicide.

Investigators say Nelson was shot multiple times in what appeared to be a targeted attack. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing a vehicle speed away from the scene shortly afterward. No arrests were made immediately, and detectives continued to follow leads.
