Jaden Krauss was a 13-year-old student at Centralia Junior High School who was shot during a sleepover on May 4, 2019. Police found him with a gunshot wound to the head after a 911 call; he was taken to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and died of his injuries two days later. Jaden enjoyed running track, making videos for his YouTube channel, live streaming, cooking, music, and spending time with his girlfriend Haylee, family and friends.
A 15-year-old boy identified on social media as Jayden Smith pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter days after the shooting and was sentenced to a maximum of five years in the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice; he was released after serving six months. Jaden’s mother believes others at the sleepover were involved. Two other boys and their mother, Nicole Kirgan, were charged with obstruction of justice and destroying evidence; Kirgan pleaded guilty and received 30 months probation. The family says some organ donations from Jaden benefited recipients.
