Derrick Orange, a 32-year-old African American man, was shot and killed inside a house in the 11200 block of South Homewood Avenue in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side of Chicago on April 27, 2019. The shooting occurred at approximately 2:23 a.m.; he was struck in the torso and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later. An autopsy the next day ruled his death a homicide from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Area South detectives are handling the investigation. No arrests have been announced, no suspects have been publicly identified, and the motive has not been determined. Investigators say a lack of witnesses and concrete leads has hindered the case, and the family and community continue to seek answers.
Does anyone who lived in Morgan Park that night or who heard or saw anything around South Homewood Avenue on April 27, 2019, have information that could help?
