Jerry McCray Jr., 22, was fatally shot on January 13, 2019, in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Springhill Drive in Roselle, Illinois. First responders arrived about 4:10 p.m. after a call about a person down and found McCray with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village and pronounced dead shortly before 5 p.m.

Investigators say McCray was in the backseat of a car when he was shot eight times in the abdomen, chest, and arms. The shooter has been identified as 25-year-old Brandon J. Foster, who allegedly produced a .45-caliber handgun and fired without provocation. Foster was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee, and charged with first-degree murder; he was held on $3 million bail. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident and said it did not appear to be a threat to the public. The motive remains unclear; McCray, Foster, and another man had gathered to smoke marijuana in the car before the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting or who knew McCray is asked to come forward.
