Romane D. Taylor Jr. was 17 when he was fatally shot on September 2, 2018, in Homewood, Illinois, during an alleged robbery attempt. He was taken by police to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and died later that night. A student at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Romane was remembered as intelligent and playful and went by several nicknames including Roro, Yaya, Lil Ro, and Budda Man; the school provided counselors after his death.

Homewood police charged 19-year-old Johnny Johnson of Chicago Heights with first-degree murder under the felony murder rule and with attempted armed robbery, alleging that Johnson and Romane had lured an acquaintance to the 19100 block of Loomis Avenue to commit a robbery. Reports state the intended victim, an unnamed juvenile, fired the shot that struck Romane in the stomach. At an October 10, 2018 arraignment Judge Michele Pitman announced a grand jury indictment; Johnson pleaded not guilty and was held on $500,000 bond. It is unclear whether the juvenile faced charges due to confidentiality of juvenile records.

Did anyone in the community know Romane or have information about the events on Loomis Avenue that night?
