Sanchez Townes-Elliot, a 27-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on June 3, 2018, in a basement recording studio in an unincorporated area near Roselle, Illinois. The shooting followed an argument after Townes-Elliot displayed a handgun; an acquaintance, Owen Reneau, 32, became uncomfortable, picked up the gun from a table and a heated argument ensued. Reneau shot Townes-Elliot and fled. Townes-Elliot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reneau was located weeks later at a relative’s home in suburban Baltimore, Maryland, arrested and extradited to DuPage County, Illinois. He was held on a $5 million bond at the DuPage County jail and faced charges related to the shooting. In May 2020 Reneau pleaded guilty to a felony count of second-degree murder; his plea was accepted by Judge Brian Telander and sentencing was set for June 24, 2020.
Who knew Sanchez Townes-Elliot or has information about the events at that recording studio on June 3, 2018?
