Shortly before 1 a.m. on April 27, 2018, multiple 911 calls brought officers to the 100 block of Algonquin Street in Park Forest, where two people had been shot. One victim, 23-year-old Sherrod A. James, a Black male who lived on that block, was rushed to Franciscan Health in Chicago Heights and pronounced dead at 1:24 a.m. A second victim was hospitalized in critical condition.
Park Forest police initially reported no immediate arrests and said they did not believe there was a continued threat to the public. Investigators working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force later developed suspects: in June 2018 Markees Sharkey, an 18-year-old male from Chicago, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in James’s death; on October 1, 2019, Robert Sanner, a 20-year-old male from Chicago Heights, was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Officials emphasized the presumption of innocence as the case moved into the courts.
Who on Algonquin Street that night might have seen or heard something important?
