Melvin DeVost II, 29, of North Chicago, Illinois, was shot and killed on March 5, 2018 after an altercation at Frank’s Lounge on Green Bay Road. DeVost was a passenger in a car when Andre Jones, 35, of Waukegan, opened fire after an argument with DeVost; the driver tried to rush him to a hospital but the car broke down en route and DeVost later died at the hospital.
Jones was arrested on March 7, 2018 and charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors relied in part on testimony from the vehicle’s driver, described in reporting as Jones’ half-brother; defense attorneys argued that witness was lying to protect himself. Court filings noted Jones had prior convictions for gun possession and selling cocaine.
DeVost is remembered by family as intelligent and resourceful; his relatives, including his 11-year-old daughter, spoke at a later court hearing about the effect of his death on the family. Does anyone have information about Melvin’s last hours or who saw the argument at Frank’s Lounge?
