Walter Tarasiuk, a 57-year-old from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was shot and killed at his home on Ash Road on January 10, 2018. He lived there with his 22-year-old son, Alec Tarasiuk. The shooting followed a heated argument in which Walter criticized Alec for being unemployed and aimless; Walter had also been playing an online video game and loudly threatened other players. Alec, apparently believing those threats were aimed at him, retrieved his father’s loaded handgun from the garage and shot Walter in the head.
Alec called police after the shooting and was arrested. He was charged with six counts of first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty, saying he thought his father’s threats were directed at him. A judge denied bail, describing Alec as a danger to the public, and his next court date was set for April 3, 2018. Neighbors described Walter as a friendly neighborhood handyman and expressed shock at the killing.
If anyone knew Walter or saw anything related to the events at the Ash Road home on January 10, 2018, please share information that could help clarify what happened.
