Leon Perry, 19, and his mother Seretse Robinson-Perry, 48, were shot and killed on October 18, 2017, in Calumet City, Illinois. Both were found with gunshot wounds inside a car that had rolled onto the sidewalk in the 500 block of State Street. Leon was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead at 6:33 p.m.; his mother was taken to Franciscan Health in Hammond, Indiana and pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Both deaths were ruled homicides.
Investigators say the pair were not the intended targets and that shooters fired from a dark-colored Infinity FX-type vehicle that fled west on State Street. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force handled the case; a community activist offered a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, but no arrests had been announced as of the latest update. Family and friends described Leon and Seretse as inseparable and deeply connected.
Anyone with information that could help identify the shooters or the vehicle is asked to come forward.
