Richard Anthony Ricky Karis was 30 when he was killed in the early hours of November 12, 2005. He was asleep as a passenger in a friend’s car while the driver went into a convenience store on the 4600 block of 68th Avenue in Landover, Maryland. Around 2:00 a.m., the driver was shot in the back; when he regained consciousness he found Karis in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel pronounced Karis dead at the scene.

Karis grew up in the area and played football for the Landover Hills Boys and Girls Club and later at Archbishop Carroll High School. He was expecting a son, Richard Anthony Karis, Jr., who was born five months after the murder. Multiple witnesses were present that night, but investigators have not identified a suspect or a clear motive. A cash reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment. If anyone knew Ricky or saw activity near the 4600 block of 68th Avenue on November 12, 2005, please come forward.
