Mohamed Salhia, 76, was shot and later died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after an attempted robbery at his business, Ray’s Towing and Recovery Service, in Alsip, Illinois on September 19, 2017. The attack happened about 12:45 p.m. when a masked, armed man identified as 33-year-old Brian Garcia of Carpentersville entered the shop and demanded money. Garcia struck an employee who tried to retreat, then a struggle unfolded when Salhia and his 43-year-old son confronted the intruder.
During the struggle Garcia fired, fatally wounding Salhia in the torso and striking his son multiple times; the son survived and was hospitalized in stable condition with seven gunshot wounds. Garcia fled in a gray Dodge Challenger but was later spotted by Oak Lawn officers, chased and arrested. He was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder and held without bail.
The family and community lost a business owner to a violent robbery that also left his son gravely wounded. Does anyone have information about that afternoon at Ray’s Towing or remember the vehicle that was seen fleeing?
