On the night of September 19, 2001, Desirei Demeris Joyner, a Black male, was shot and killed in Salisbury, Maryland. Police were called about 10:15 p.m. to the area near Priscilla Street and the railroad tracks and found Joyner lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Investigators say the shooting began inside a Jefferson Street residence during a struggle; Joyner ran from the house after being shot and collapsed in the street.
People who were in the house that night did not contact police and were reported to have been deceptive during interviews, which hindered the early investigation. No arrests have been announced, no suspects publicly identified, and the case remains an open cold file in Salisbury.
Anyone who was in the neighborhood that evening or who has information about the Jefferson Street residence or the people present is asked to come forward.
