Zachary Hubbart, 22, of Decatur, Illinois, was found dead in a vacant house in Decatur on August 27, 2017. The coroner reported he had been shot multiple times in the head and other parts of his body, and investigators concluded he was the victim of a violent crime.
Authorities charged two Decatur residents, Jason White, 31, and Ryan Waters, 20, with first-degree murder in connection with Hubbart’s death; the indictment also included four counts of murder and one count of armed robbery with a firearm. Autumn Billings, 26, was charged with obstruction of justice. Prosecutors alleged White fired the gun that killed Hubbart, which exposed him to an additional sentencing enhancement if convicted.
Jason White stood trial in Macon County; the prosecution presented evidence linking him to the crime, and a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder. Ryan Waters was scheduled for trial, with his case pending at the time. If anyone knew Zachary, his movements that day, or has information about the people charged, please come forward.
