Irving Estrada was 17 when he was fatally shot on August 22, 2017, around 8 p.m. while playing basketball with friends in the 1600 block of South 56th Court in Cicero, Illinois. The man, identified as 20-year-old Desmond Jones, allegedly asked whether the players were in a gang, used a racial epithet, and told the boy to shoot Estrada. The boy then produced a handgun and shot Estrada in the stomach; Estrada was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and pronounced dead at 9:08 p.m.
Jones was later arrested and charged with murder; he was ordered held on $1 million bail. Authorities are still seeking the young boy who fired the shot. Video reportedly shows two people on bicycles arriving at and leaving the scene, and witnesses said the attackers were neighborhood residents who identified Jones as the man who urged the shooting. Friends and family gathered at the court to mourn; Estrada was remembered for his love of basketball and as funny and athletic. The police investigation remains ongoing and investigators hope nearby home security video will identify the suspects.
Did anyone see the two bicyclists or the boy who fired the shot that night?
