Wesley Getter, 23, was shot near his home on the 1200 block of Memorial Drive in Calumet City, Illinois, in the early morning hours of August 10, 2017. Officers and EMS arrived about 1:52 a.m.; Getter was taken to Saint Margaret’s Franciscan Health in Hammond, Indiana, and pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m. The Lake County coroner ruled his death a homicide from a gunshot wound. Another man was shot in the foot during the same incident.

Investigators developed leads that pointed to 24-year-old Robert Coppage of Lansing. Coppage was apprehended with Lansing police for an unrelated domestic battery matter and was charged by the Cook County state’s attorney with first-degree murder and attempted murder; court records show he was ordered held without bond and had a next court date set for September 1, 2017, at the Markham courthouse.

Anyone who knew Wesley, was in that part of Calumet City the night of August 10, 2017, or has information about the shooting is asked to come forward.
