Millian Caston, a 47-year-old African American man, was shot and killed inside his home in Calumet City, Illinois, on the night of June 7, 2017. Emergency crews were called to the 1300 block of Hirsch Avenue around 11 p.m.; Caston was found with a gunshot wound and taken to Franciscan Health in Hammond, Indiana, where he was pronounced dead at 11:58 p.m. The Lake County, Indiana, coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Initial reports said few details were known about the circumstances that led to the shooting. Calumet City police asked anyone with information to come forward. Investigators have followed leads and re-examined evidence over the years, but no arrests or suspects were publicly identified and the case remained open as investigators continued to seek tips.
