James Miller, a 21-year-old African American man from Park Forest, Illinois, was fatally shot on May 30, 2017, in Dolton, Illinois, near a currency exchange in the 15000 block of Michigan City Road. Officers nearby heard gunfire and found Miller had been struck by gunshot wounds. After being shot he got into a car driven by a woman with a young child also in the vehicle; they drove off and later stopped at Sibley and Woodlawn where police and paramedics found them.
Miller was taken to Franciscan Health in Hammond and was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m. the same day. The Lake County, Indiana, coroner ruled the death a homicide and the South Suburban Major Crimes Taskforce led the investigation, with active leads being followed.
Was anyone in the Dolton area that afternoon aware of the shooting or the vehicle that left the scene?
