Justin Campbell, 37, was found dead inside his Glen Carbon home on Dogwood Lane after an early-morning fire on March 16, 2017. The Madison County Coroner’s Office determined he died of a gunshot wound to the head; firefighters discovered his body inside the residence following the blaze.

Investigators later determined that Justin’s estranged wife, Cristy Campbell, 32, was responsible for his death. Cristy’s body was recovered from Silver Lake about 400 feet from her partially submerged vehicle after she had driven away from the scene with the couple’s three-month-old son. The infant was rescued from the frigid water by a paramedic. The coroner listed Cristy’s cause of death as probable drowning complicated by hypothermia; toxicology showed caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Authorities say no additional parties were involved. The couple had a history of domestic problems and had filed for divorce twice.

Justin, a Bob Evans manager in Collinsville, and Cristy, an office manager and mother, left seven children without parents. The community held a vigil for Justin. If anyone knew the Campbells or has information about the events of March 16, 2017, please come forward.
