Javon Trott, a 19-year-old African American man, was shot near the Eurma C. Hayes Center in Carbondale, Illinois, on March 9, 2017. He was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and underwent surgery but died of multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting shocked the local community.
Investigators arrested 26-year-old Jarrell Pullen in April 2017 in Arkansas and charged him with Trott’s murder. Pullen was tried; a judge heard the case in a three-day bench trial that resulted in a guilty finding. In October 2020 Pullen received a 72-year prison term for the killing.
Those who knew Javon or who were in the area that night are asked to share any information that could shed further light on what happened.
