Robert Lee Brown, a 21-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on November 26, 2016, at a house in the 700 block of East University Avenue in Urbana, Illinois. The Urbana Police Department responded and opened an investigation into the circumstances of his death.

Authorities later identified and arrested 24-year-old Tyrone Franklin in connection with Brown’s murder. Franklin was taken into custody at an apartment on North Lincoln Avenue in Urbana by U.S. Marshals Service officers, with assistance from a multi-jurisdictional Street Crimes Task Force, Champaign and Urbana police detectives, and METRO SWAT. He was charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled for arraignment shortly after his arrest.

Investigators said the shooting was tied to a series of retaliatory acts of violence in the Champaign-Urbana area that followed the 2014 death of Rakim Vineyard, and that Brown’s killing was believed connected to that ongoing cycle. Has anyone in the area seen or heard information that could help clarify the events leading to Brown’s death?
