Anthony J. Pannell Jr., 24, of East St. Louis, Illinois, was shot multiple times and killed on September 4, 2016, in Washington Park, Illinois. Police found a Chevrolet Impala that had run off the road and crashed at 47th Street and Hallows Avenue around 9:30 PM; Pannell was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 23-year-old Amber Bieser of St. Mary, Missouri, was critically injured and later died at a St. Louis area hospital; she was about ten and a half weeks pregnant and also lost her unborn child. A 2-year-old boy in the backseat was unharmed.
The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear and no suspects or arrests have been announced. The Illinois State Police assisted the Washington Park Police Department, and CrimeStoppers offered an anonymous tip line as authorities sought information about the victims’ whereabouts before the shooting. The families continue to seek answers and justice.
If anyone knew Anthony or Amber, or has information about that night, please come forward with what was seen or heard.
