Marty Burtin was 29 when he was shot to death shortly after midnight on August 4, 2016, near his home in the 3900 block of Warren Avenue in Bellwood, Illinois. He was shot multiple times, pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 1:13 a.m., and an autopsy ruled the cause of death multiple gunshot wounds; the death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators identified 24-year-old Tajuan Murry of North Riverside through video surveillance and witness statements, including testimony from Murry’s brother. Police say Burtin was shot about 15 times and another person was also injured; Murry was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder and was held without bond. Motive was not immediately clear.
