Carla M. Burns, 49, was reported missing from Harrisburg, Illinois on March 8, 2016 after she was last seen leaving her workplace. A nursing instructor at Southeastern Illinois College who lived in Marion, she had recently moved out of the marital home during a bitter divorce that began in December 2015 and had filed for a restraining order, citing fear for her safety.
Her vehicle was later found parked at her estranged husband’s home, and the investigation focused on Dr. Brian Burns, 56, a family practice physician. Authorities arrested him on March 16, 2016 and charged him with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death after discovering that Carla had been shot and her body burned. Prosecutors said a financial motive was suspected because Carla had filed for a separate tax return during the divorce.
Carla’s family and friends remember her as a dedicated nurse and a mother to two sons in Texas. Does anyone have information about Carla’s last day or saw her leaving work on March 8, 2016?
