Matthew Alan Grady, 31, of rural Rochester, Illinois, was shot and killed at his home on January 25, 2016, during what investigators say began as a robbery attempt connected to a drug transaction. He was struck multiple times and died of his wounds. Born December 9, 1984, Grady worked in construction and was known for building and launching rockets, raising German Shepherds, and volunteering to assist people with visual impairments.
Authorities identified three suspects in the case. Marcus R. Russell, 34, of Chicago, and Dewon D. Loman Jr., 31, of Springfield, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder; Russell also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Travis W. Ramsey, 42, of Springfield, was identified as a co-defendant and is awaiting trial. Arrests were reported in Arkansas and Indiana after the shooting.
If anyone knew Matthew, witnessed activity near his home that night, or has information about the robbery attempt, please come forward with what was seen or heard.
