Terron Jackson, a 30-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on the evening of July 13, 2015, in the Garden Hills neighborhood of Champaign, Illinois. He was struck in the chest; police said the shooting did not appear to be a targeted attack on Jackson but may have resulted from mistaken identity or from being caught in crossfire during a dispute.
The Champaign Police Department opened an investigation and asked the public for help identifying the shooter. On July 29, 2015, police arrested 21-year-old Brandon L. Collier of Champaign and charged him with first-degree murder; he was held on $1 million bond. The case went to trial in June 2016, where the prosecution presented evidence and witness testimony about the dispute that led to the shooting, and the defense challenged aspects of that evidence.
Jackson’s death remains a reminder of the human cost of street violence and the ripple effect on family and neighbors. If anyone knew Terron, his movements that evening, or has information about the incident, please come forward.
