Fourteen-year-old Rashad Oliver of Riverdale, Illinois, was shot and killed near 143rd and Dearborn on January 25, 2015, just a few blocks from his home. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and saw Rashad lying outside an apartment building; he was struck in the head and did not survive. He was an eighth grader at Roosevelt Junior High School, remembered by classmates for making others laugh and being well liked.
Riverdale police released video showing two men running from the scene shortly after the shooting, and investigators later concluded Rashad was not the intended target but an innocent bystander caught in crossfire of a gang-related dispute. On February 13, 2015, authorities arrested Terry Johnson, a 21-year-old parolee and gang member, and charged him with murder. The community rallied around Rashad’s family and called for greater efforts to curb gun and gang violence.
If anyone knew Rashad or has information about what happened that night, please share what you know.
