Kevin L. Denson, 35, was shot to death inside a home in Riverdale, Illinois, on December 2, 2014. The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. near West 138th Street and South Stewart Avenue; Denson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where he was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m. A woman was also shot in the shoulder and treated at Ingalls Memorial Hospital; her injuries were not life-threatening.
Riverdale police say the incident was domestic-related and not random. Officers pursued a vehicle after receiving reports someone was placing children into it; the chase ended on Chicago’s Far South Side near West 116th and South Laflin, the driver was arrested, and two boys found in the vehicle were unharmed. Deonte Smith, 25, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated fleeing and eluding, with bond set at $6 million.
Neighbors described Denson as recently moved into the home with his family and said the shooting came as a shock. What information might help clarify the events that led to this domestic-related shooting?
