Antonio L. Jones, a 43-year-old African American man, was found dead on November 10, 2014, after a vehicle fire in East St. Louis, Illinois. Firefighters responding about 3:09 PM to a car ablaze near 18th Street and East Broadway Avenue discovered his burnt body in the trunk. Investigators determined Jones had been shot and killed in St. Louis, Missouri, before his body was placed in the trunk, the vehicle driven to East St. Louis, and set on fire.
The East St. Louis Police Department asked the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to assist. The probe produced several suspects: Hairl T. Johnson, Randell Patton, and Marquis D. Reasonover, who were charged with using a firearm to commit murder in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin. Authorities also named 43-year-old Hairl T. Johnson as a person of interest and sought the public’s help locating him.
Anyone with information about Antonio Jones, the vehicle fire, or the people named in the investigation is asked to come forward.
