On October 25, 2014, at about 2:15 a.m., officers found 35-year-old Yojevol D. Sturkey, an African American male, lying unresponsive on the ground in the 900 block of West Bradley Avenue in Champaign. He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after arrival. Investigators determined Sturkey was the victim of a violent crime and the case remained unsolved for years while police sought public help.
The file notes a major development in March 2022 when charges of first-degree murder were filed against 32-year-old Darrion Miles of Urbana. Miles was in custody in Kankakee County on unrelated charges when the murder charge was filed. The Champaign Police Department asked anyone with additional information to contact them or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
