Dwayne McCray, a 20-year-old African American man, was shot to death on September 14, 2014, in the 21000 block of Peterson Avenue in Sauk Village, Illinois. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:40 p.m.; the Cook County medical examiner determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the death a homicide. McCray lived in the 1000 block of East 170th Street in South Holland.

Investigators pursued the case across state lines. A 19-year-old Sauk Village resident, Devonte Marsh, was arrested in Georgia on a Cook County warrant and returned to Illinois. Marsh appeared in bond court in Markham and was ordered held without bond. The motive and the events leading up to the shooting remain key unanswered elements of the investigation.

If anyone has information about McCray’s final hours, the shooting on Peterson Avenue, or relevant witnesses, please come forward.
