Rakim J. Vineyard, 22, of Champaign, Illinois, was shot and killed on July 19, 2014. The shooting occurred about 12:24 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Sixth Street. Vineyard was found with multiple gunshot wounds and died shortly after the attack.
Witnesses said they saw an armed man flee the scene. The suspect was described as a black male, about 17 to 25 years old, roughly 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts or pants. Police indicated the shooter was believed to be someone Vineyard knew and linked the killing to ongoing conflicts among loosely organized gangs in the area. The Champaign Police Department conducted an extensive investigation involving numerous interviews and evidence collection.
Does anyone who lived in Champaign in 2014 remember seeing activity on North Sixth Street that afternoon or have information about Rakim’s case?
