Tyler Deneen Hoppe, 23, of Alton, Illinois, was found dead outside his car in an alley near his home on Hampton Avenue on December 7, 2011. He had been lured into his car by two women under the pretense of smoking marijuana. According to the investigation, Nigel Generally, 21, of Berkeley, Missouri, and co-defendant Larry Belk approached the vehicle; Generally struck Tyler in the mouth with a gun and then shot him in the side of the head. Prosecutors described the killing as a premeditated robbery motivated by the perpetrators’ belief that Tyler sold marijuana and would be carrying cash, though the robbery produced no money.
Nigel Generally was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 33 years; his defense claimed he had been intimidated by Hosie Burgess Jr., to whom he allegedly owed money. Detective Jarrett Ford testified that Generally was the instigator, and witnesses said Generally later sold the murder weapon for $100, boasting that it had a body on it. Burgess and Belk also faced charges related to Hoppe’s murder.
Tyler was known for meticulous car detailing and a passion for Chevys. Does anyone have information about Tyler’s last movements that night or about the people involved?
