Stanley Hays, 77, of Detroit, Illinois, was killed on March 11, 1997, during an armed robbery at the Comerica bank branch in Detroit. Griffin then seized and threw an elderly customer to the ground and shot him in the head before police arrived and killed Griffin outside the bank.
Reports say Griffin’s actions were linked to family troubles and an expressed desire to have someone else kill him; he was also wanted for violating probation from a drug conviction. The bank had reportedly been the target of several prior robberies, and the community was left shaken by the multiple deaths.
Does anyone have additional details about the victims or the security history of that Comerica branch?
