Sheila Ellen Cole was 21 when she was abducted and murdered on November 17, 1977. She was born September 15, 1956, in St. Louis and was the daughter of Harold Lee Cole and Naomi Frances Wood Cole. Sheila had been attending Southeast Missouri State University and was taken from a Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau.

Her body was later found near a rest stop in McClure, Illinois, having been shot in the head multiple times with a gun reportedly used in other killings.

The case remained unsolved for decades until DNA testing identified Timothy Krajcir as the killer in 2007. Krajcir was described as a serial murderer and rapist with earlier arrests for sexual assault; his confession and the DNA link are reported to have closed this cold case.
