On the afternoon of Monday, December 12, 2022, 19-year-old Willie Willow Earl Winzer was shot in the parking lot of Edgewood Square Apartments on McDonald Avenue in Ruston, Louisiana. Police arriving at about 1:35 p.m. found Winzer with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center and pronounced dead. Investigators said the shooting appeared to follow an argument between Winzer and at least one other person, but why Winzer—who was not a resident of the complex—was there was not clear.
Winzer had recently been released from jail after serving a sentence for the negligent homicide of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Krystavia Buggs, who died from a single gunshot wound to the head in March 2021; Winzer initially denied involvement and later admitted to the shooting, saying he believed the gun was unloaded. Police appealed to the public for help identifying and locating suspect or suspects; as of late December 2022 no arrests had been announced and the investigation remained active.
Did anyone in the Ruston area see Winzer at Edgewood Square Apartments that afternoon or know who he was with?
