A high school homecoming in Bogalusa, Louisiana, ended in tragedy on the evening of October 14, 2022, when 15-year-old Jerry Smith was fatally shot outside Bogalusa High School’s stadium while the game was underway. Investigators later determined 19 shots came from three different firearms at the scene, and two shots were fired from a gun found next to Smith’s body.

Authorities arrested 18-year-old LaKendall Brown, who turned himself in with his attorney, and charged him with second-degree murder, illegal use of a dangerous weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property. Warrants were issued for Jerome Wilson and Jordan Smith on obstruction of justice charges. At trial prosecutors emphasized the multiple weapons and number of rounds; the defense said Brown acted in self-defense and that Jerry Smith fired first.

In February 2024 a Washington Parish jury convicted Brown, then 19, of manslaughter and related charges, with sentencing set for April 10, 2024. Did anyone at the game or nearby that night see what happened outside the stadium?
